Henz when first caught they turn wonderful greens, golds, and have an irradescnt glitter to them, being all excited. After about 5-10 minutes on the boat they lose all their fighting colors and look real gray. It is a shame because they are a most beautiful fish. You can tell it is a "bull" because of the big round forehead. Did I get that right R?
R, Nice fish. What line weight were you fishing? /sammie

I assume Henz is trying to tell us he isn't used to catching one to see it fade to blue!! :D
Bulls have the big flat forehead, Cows have a rounded head.
He is still fresh, once dead a while they look more grey / green.
After a long fight they look very green, but change back to blue then, fade to grey/green
15 lb. test line, 30 lb. leader.
R.
nope, never cought one..Never seen a live one..Only on the fishing shows. :)

I strongly advise a trip to hunt the dolphinfish, as they are one of my my favorites and can pack a whallop, and no sitting down for fighting this fish. I caught my first one with my dad on a headboat off Jupiter Inlet in about 1966, about 28#. I thought I was going overboard but hung on. Last year some were caught off Block Island and Montauk, so they have a considerable range.
I simply can't say enough good things about this kind of fish. It does not seem to be endangered, has few toxins based on species testing, and tastes great! Don't tell my doctor, but the beer-batter fry method is simply heaven.
You can troll and all that, but this is one of the few pelagic fish you can sight-cast under weedlines and floating trash (the other is ling). If the dolphinfish are there, several will come and sniff the bait as it slowly drops. The trick is SLOW AND EASY.
A floating pallet is really good. Chunk it just like bass fishing and if nobody's there, tie on a chum bag and a highliner and come back later.
A highliner is just a 6-12 foot stick with a flag or radar reflector on top connected to a buoy and an anchor weight a few feet down on the stick. That helps you find your secret spot after some time elsewhere. They are quite useful for measuring current drift and sometimes are used for balloon fishing. Every boat should have one.
Of course, R is going to say all that is Mickey Mouse and you just need to go get yourself a feesh! :D

Ok, so which guides out of TC Marina can hook me up with a school of dolphin (are we land a few billfish first!)?
I tried to catch them in October but I guess they werent around. The only thing that I cought was some kind of mackeral..But, I never did get outside of the sea of abaco.

I don't have much local experience in the Abaco but here on the Gulf-Mex, late September through mid-October is legendary for the "Mack Run." Spanish and King mackerel will be right off the passes, inside the bays, and swarming in large numbers. The Spanish "smacks" are OK eating but I don't care as much for the King except its fight - they aren't so possum ugly either! /sammie
