Willy et. al.,

Could you please offer me some advice? I'd like to purchase a flyrod and reel that could be used for bonefish, permit and even maybe some dolphinfish/ blackfin tuna. I know that's asking a lot out of one rig...but would you suggest a 10 weight, nine? I got de bug...

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

rs

Go with a ten weight - it will help you cast further to Bones in the wind, and has more backbone for Dolphin.

If you can get a school up it is easy to hook them on fly or spinning gear,
and it is a blast!!

Just for grins I checked some prices for a 12-wt fly set-up. This size is recommended for the larger offshore fish such as tuna although I certainly I am way over my head here.

Wow, what a shocker! Twelve hundred Samoleans seems to be a middling price for rod and reel together.

Silly me, there I was looking for custom spinning combos in the 200-300 buckaroo range. Big boys - expensive toys, I guess. :D
