The government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas announced today the finalization of an agreement whereby Discovery Land Corporation will sell the entirety of their holdings on Guana Cay to an anonymous donor who has subsequently agreed to transfer the land to the Bahamas National Trust. The agreement includes extra funding to "reclaim" the damage that has been done to mangroves and sensitive wetlands.

The area will be designated as "Baker's Bay National Park and Wildlife Refuge," and will be managed by the national trust as well as a local Board of Trustees. Named to the local board as chairman is Glenn Laing, former Island Commissioner of Guana Cay. Other commissioners include Mrs. Pat Weatherford, Mr. Troy Albury, Mr. Aubrey Clark, Mr. Johnny Roberts, and Mrs. Jerry Summey, who will function as liaison to US tourists and second homeowners.

Correction! Glenn is still our Local Councilman. Glenn is doing wonderful. He isn't back on Guana yet but wants all to know that he is NOT resigning.

This is so close to our own "Wish List" for Bakers Bay!!
