This has probably been explained before, but are the seas that are specified in "Weather around Marsh Harbour" in the "Today's Weather" link the Sea of Abaco seas, or the Atlantic seas? I see this Friday and Saturday, the seas have improved markedly since yesterday at 3-5ft. for friday, and 2-4 ft. for Saturday. Just want verification if it's Sea or Ocean.

Thanks!

Not sure what link you are refering to but Ernesto's outer winds should be affecting the area it not now, soon.

Actually, the link is on the "other"board, and that is why I re-posted there (double-dipping!). The seas they refer to are for the ocean not the Sea of Abaco.

Don't think Ernesto will have a big impact on the Abaco's. It has edged yet a little further west. We already have experienced the very outer edge feeder bands here in S. Fl. about an hour ago. Pretty gusty wind and rain, now it is calm again.

Didn't know that was you, South Pause ... I did make a funny that hasn't been nuked yet. Ah yes, something about a recipe for a seafood dip, that was it! Perhaps I ended up being the seafood dip ... sorry about that.

As to Ernesto, one of my jobs is to apply my wishes and prayers so hurricanes won't come to the Abacos this year - my folk's house near MOW has taken a beating over the years. Maybe it is working.

The Sturgeon General

Here you go Norvell. Scroll to the bottom and there is weather info from Footes Cay. There have been a few squalls and some wind but not bad at all.

I've spent ten years trying to convince folks that there is no valid forecast for the Sea of Abaco, it's explained in the article How Rough is the Sea of Abaco (http://www.drralph.net/How_Rough.html)? I think what you're seeing is a forecast for winds and seas north and east of Abaco. Even that can be tricky: on a stiff SE wind the seas off of Elbow, Tilloo, and Lynyard can be quite rough, but much less so off of Guana and GTC, at least within a first few miles, because of the shelter of the landmass of those cays. That's why you have to get up every morning, sniff the wind, and think it through.

Dr. R. : Totally agree, however, we are headed over on Friday, and renting a boat in Marsh and headed to Guana. Sometimes you can at least get a very general idea of conditions which, if really rough, might have a bearing on our ability to make that crossing by boat, (coming with another couple and their child, otherwise we'd go for it ourselves) or force us to change our plans and go over on the ferry. That being said, we would almost have to make that decision once we're there, which is your point.

Ernesto has basically turned into a "dud", for which we are all grateful.
I do hope it does not strengthen once it gets back over water, and that the Carolinas and on up get as lucky as we did/are.
