Can anyone give us an update on the status of wi-fi internet connections in Abaco? Anything you can share about equipment, procedures, quality of connections; we frequently get questions about this issue, and we haven't seen a good update for a while. Thanks in advance :) .

I was there from 6/20/06 to 6/28/06 then again 7/29/06to 8/6/06 stayed in beach villas both times used dial uip in nthe villas but also I have a wifi equipped 6700 Pocket pc phone I kept the wifi feature enabled since nI nhave skpe loaded on it. I war drove and found Oii very strong around TC and Cocnut Telegraphs spotty I neven got a signal in Crown Haven non Coconut Tels and even some unlocked Coconut
Tel in TC unlocked connection speed very good. However on my August visit I found only one or two locations for Coconut Tel in TC All locked down and some of the previous hotspots that were coconut Tel such as around the library did not show up at all. Oii still has a very strong signal
though. near Mangoes in Marsh I picked up a good signal

MY folks still use Abacoinet.com. It works OK with an external antenna. I was just thinking about the Tin Can method! That guy was smart.

They use VOIP sometimes and it seems about 3 o'clock the static is really bad, and can drop internet connections. Atmospherics?

RGR you raised an interesting issue about unsecure or unlocked connections. When dealing with company business and email I get a little nervous about that. There again, when I go to the Abacos, I usually leave all the trappings of civilization back home! :)
