Is there a way to drive to Pete's Pub? Is it worth it?
Sure you can drive there and the last time we went the roads were in really good condition compared to a year ago. Check out the web site for more info.

When you drive to Little Harbour, go on just a little farther and visit Cherokee, too.
Oh yes, definitely visit Cherokee. Its a beautiful settlement, very quaint, quiet and the view is out of this world. Visit the Sand Bar Restaurant. What a relaxing place.

PatW what does "senior" member mean? Pete's Pub is wonderful. Great view, great food and a super duper specialty drink! Must visit Cherokee also to find some great shells. I did not see where the Sand Bar Restaurant was......where???? Uhhhhh Pat, I thought the road to Pete's Pub was rather bumpy......what must it have been like?????

I remember it as a tract road cut out with machettes and axes reached from Yellowood Creek landing, or walking the rocks and tract road from Cherokee to Yellowood and on from there. As a kid it seemed like an all-day journey, and I'd get piggy-back rides from my grandmother's first cousin Curtis Lowe (father of Maitland and Robert of Hopetown), who was the Gov't. light-keeper at "Hurricane Hole" as Little Harbour was refered to. It was either that or sail around in a dinghy if the weather was favourable!

It seems there are only 2 'senior' members; Pat and SamFamAustin. They are also the only one's with over 100 posts! Do I win a prize??:D
Guess we all better get busy!
Well, I am a "senior" ya know! ;)
There are signs as you near Cherokee for the Sand Bar. Its at the end of a 400ft. dock. There is plenty parking behind a gate, then you start the walk to the dock.

Wow! Sounds like the road to Pete's now is like I-95 compared to the good old days! :D

I remember our first time going to Little Harbour back in the mid '90's. Got a rental car in TC. After a side trip via ferry to Hopetown, off we went into the unknown. Back then, very little of the road to Little Harbour off the Great Abaco Highway was paved. It's about 11 miles from the GAH to the turn off for Pete's Pub, which was then unmarked! Then another couple miles after the left turn to Pete's. We endured what was called a "road" for about 30-45 minutes and thought maybe we had missed the turn off. At that point we were on a small turn off that went nowhere....just another logging road cut into the wilderness. We got the VHF out of the trunk and tried to hail somebody at Pete's. We figured it was a shot in the dark, but to our amazement, someone came back! They asked where we were. Hell, if we knew where we were, we wouldn't be calling. "We're out in the middle of a forest!" After some "dead reckoning" we figured out that we had not gone far enough yet. The responder came back with "Just come a few miles further and we'll have a toddy waitin' fer ya"!
We finally arrived at the turn and went up over the hill and at the peak of the hill we saw what Little Harbour was all about. You drive on the beach to get to the Pub...what a beautiful sight! We had a "blast"(er) that day and ended up leaving right after sunset. Let me tell ya, the road back then in the almost dark was a real joy!;)
After a stop at Sap's in MH for a much needed Sap Burger, we headed back to TC. Upon arrival in TC, we noticed an inordinate amount of dirt on the undercarriage of the car. "Gee, you didn't drive to Little Harbour did you?", we could hear the rental agency asking. We didn't want to endure that possible conversation, so we washed it all off which created a new sandbox outside the villa. Nah, no one will ever know! LOL!
We have been back many times and always enjoy it there. It is now much easier with the mostly paved roads. And yes, save a little time for Cherokee which is only a couple miles further in. One of the cleanest places we have ever seen and what has to be the longest dock in Abaco. Enjoy!
Pardon the quality of this pic...it was taken with a video cam at about 100dpi...best I can do.

Early 90's. Rental house. Convinced owner to let us use their car. Set out for Pete's. Ditto Skippy's story about the roads. No VHF though. Finally drove on to beach. Saw the ramshackle bar. No one there. On we drove. Out the other side. Followed the ruts. Saw sign for "Lighthouse" to the left. Drove 10 feet too far in effort to position car for the turn. Stuck ourselves in the sand real good. There we were. Nowhere. Nobody. No way. Sticks, rocks scrap wood and all that to no avail. Twilight coming on.
OUT OF THE WOODS COMES THE LONE RANGER WITH MUCH BACKFIRING AND NO MUFFLER ON HIS JEEP. The guy just happened to be checking on the Lighthouse which I think was his "job". Out of the Jeep comes an old seaweed, salt encrusted hawser and ...END OF STORY.
Have had many more visits over the years by car and boat but that was memorable.

For an added adventure to Pete's....go by scooter! That was our first trip there - we still laugh about it!

 I talked to a couple who picked up one of those artsy advertising maps that made Pete's look like it is a little bit past the airport. They went by bike, but were able to laugh about it later.

The road has been worked on & is quite passable. Say Hello to Leigh from Tom from LI-I will be down to see her this winter. Ask for their signature drink & the grilled tuna sandwich.

and if Joshua is not in school, have him show you how the ring toss game is done. He is well practiced for an 8 or 9 year old.
