For those of us who oppose over development; I've got some new fodder for you. Are you aware that there is a massive development proposed for Lynyard Cay. I saw a note in the HT post office yesterday. Don't know alot of detail yet but do know it involves many homesites a marina with breakwall and the filling in of a pond. I'll try to find out more.
so now since I am starting this thread I want to state right away that I am not opposed to development. BUT it has to be done in "the right way" and too often it isn't.

Baker's Bay is a perfect example of not doing it "the right way."

The digging, trenching, and some pushing off was done in Lynard Cay last summer. All I know of was done on Privately owned land. I have no idea if any of it is Crown just know that alot of trenching for power, and water lines was done.

it doesn't matter so much if it's crown or private land, the environmental degredation is the same

The entire Cay was up for sale a while ago for 3.9 million. Seems like a steal to me.
I sure hope they don't gut the entire island like they did at Matt Lowe's Cay. This development will get a lot more attention than Matt Lowe's because Lynyard is a great cruising destination and day trip for smaller boats.

There is absolutely no way of building anything, no matter what it is, how well it is done, who does the building, how careful they are what materials they use an impact on the land will be made, and no matter what anyone says it is always bad, if we follow the "Save the Environment" goobs ideas to the end it involves the mass extermination of man to keep us from further destroying the earth. If we all stopped comming to Abaco it would reduce the Market for new homes, and places to stay, it would reduce the ammount of toxic fuels and gasses spread into the atmosphere and Water, no more digging up , filling in, or otherwise destroying the land.
Yes Better building practices are available, Yes they should be used. But if it is Private owned then the Government has less invovlement, and in my experience the less Government has to do with anything the better.

What I learned today is that Lynard Cay falls under the SANDY POINT LOCAL GOV - can you imagine?!! NOT HT!!! The Chief Councilor from sandy Point admitted that he had never been to Lynard to a member of the HT council. My understanding is that's it's a done deal. Marina, many home sites, fill in the pond. and this is my beef - the white crowned pigeons. You have to understand that the pigeons will live in harmony with us IF we do not destroy their habitat. You can build houses all around - and a marina - but if you cut the mangroves and fill the pond where they breed - they will go elsewhere or have nowhere to go. And this is what you people need to understand, this will happen the minute they fill the mangroves in - unlike the idea that the reef might die if they build a golf course on Great Guana.
and how many of you Johnny come latelys know that that Guana is called "Great" because Elbow Cay is actually Little Guana? - OH - I guess that can be todays ego trivia question over your $8 bottle of rum
I been here - I is here - since you was wish you were in Woodstock - you Tiva wearing Hippie wanna bes'

Anyway, I hope they do it right and leave a good chunk of the island for the little creatures.
