Had a great week in Hawaii. Stayed in Poipu on the south side of Kauai. Went with my folks and we met my brother Rex, his wife Mandy and their 3 kids Chloe (12), Tasman (9) and Maili Kai (2). They live a couple of hours from Sydney so Hawaii is a great meeting place. (Wish Abaco was closer to them!) First day was rainy so we headed to the west side for some sun. It did clear up so we had a nice day at the beach and then some shopping in historic Koloa Town. I was looking for some sugar cane for the kids so I stopped in a health food store. There were some fruits, one of which I had never seen. It looked and felt like a waxy, squishy potato. Then I smelled it. OMG, it smelled like the most pungent, overripe limburger cheese ever! Of course I had to make Tas and Rex smell it (telling them it smelled really good) and they nearly hurled. Found out it was noni fruit which is supposed to be really good for you if you drink the juice. The owner of the store told us he was going to make juice the next day so we should come back. Yeah right!
Later went to Spouting Horn. The kids had fun chasing chickens around. There are so many of them on the island!

The next day was beautiful (gorgeous sunrise!) so we spent it on Brennecke's Beach. Didn't have snorkel gear but the kids had swim goggles so we had a blast feeding the fish. There were so many of them that they hit your legs trying to get to the food. There was a turtle on the beach but the resident monk seal was not enjoying the company so he scooted the turtle back in the water. Didn't get my camera out of the bag fast enough for photos of the turtle.
Not sure what day it was but we headed north to Hanalei Bay. Stopped by BahamaAngie's beach (photos 3 & 4) but I think it was alot nicer when she was there!
At Hanalei Tas surfed for about 4 hours, only getting out to scarf down a burrito in about 2 minutes! Rex and Mandy got a surf in as well as Chloe and Maili.

Pretty much spent the rest of the days hanging at the beach. Never went out to eat but did go for drinks and pupus at The Grand Hyatt. It's a gorgeous hotel with a pretty fabulous pool. There was entertainment with the cutest bunch of keikis (little girls to be precise) dancing the hula. Didn't have my camera, which is too bad. The sunset was beautiful that night.
Spent the morning of my last day at Kipu Falls trying to get up enough nerve to jump into the water. (Never did!) I was so excited that I was going home with no bug bites but got nailed by the mosquitos there:mad: Later that day, I went back to Brenneckes with Tas and we had such a great time. It was really rough with no swimming signs but we swam out to the 'island' anyway! It's so amazing how the beach can change so drastically from day to day.
I left on Thursday but everyone else is still there for another week.
It was a great trip and so special spending it with my nieces and nephew.
I just wish someday they'll be able to make it to Abaco.

Great photo's Tina!! Beautiful kids and they are so at home in the water.
As for packing, put on your swim suit, a pair of shorts and halter top on top of that, a sun dress on top of that and your good to go. Right?:p
I'm glad you had a great time.

Thanks Sue! They really do love the water. There's a rope swing at the falls we went to and the little one, Maili, kept wanting to swing on it:eek: (I got right up next to it ready to swing and couldn't believe how high it was.) She's a bit of a daredevil!
