No sailing? :)

That's boating, but a special kind. It's my favorite really. Yep, I must be a WAFI. That stands for Wind Assisted Freakin' Idiot - an old joke. ;)

Honest, maybe DrRalph ought to make some concessions to us WAFIs because there are a whole bunch of us, especially out on the Abacos. If there's enough traffic, maybe one day he'll have a special place on this forum called "Sailing." I'd love to see pictures of the Regattas and all that too. /Sam

One day we were tied up at Sailfish Marina in Palm Beach. Near the end of the Center Dock was a gorgeous old wooden sailboat, for charter, either bare or with crew. The guy at the helm hailed us, asked us if we were interested; I told him we were too lazy and too stupid to sail. He pulled at his beard for a moment, then told us that, for powerboaters, we were "pretty reasonable people," which I took as about the best compliment I could expect from a blow-boater.

In any event, we have amended the forum description to include sailing; please accept our apologies.

Does this qualify as boating? How about a leisurely Sunday drive to Nippers. www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/10/17/amphibious.car.ap/index.html

DrRalph - thanks, funny story. Some of us like "both worlds" ya know!

Willy - the MOST my dad would give me was a 10 HP outboard. Meanie!

Bo - I have an extended cab truck with an 8-foot bed. I couldn't parallel park if you paid me. In a boat, I'm known as the "dock whacker." I have NEVER hit another boat. But I have, err, embarassed the heck out of myself. Fortunately, my crew usually knows to run interference by launching water balloons. Unfortunately, I couldn't bribe any gals to sling water balloons while topless, and I am very jealous of the gentleman who mentioned that once.

Sam Fam- Does the water balloon technique work every time?

Alas, the water balloon method is not perfect, especially with a serious crowd. The most serious is when in the marina area the the gals say "I need the rest room NOW."

That's serious. And when a norther blows in about 30 knots and you just blew through the pass with waves six feet tall ... and it starts raining down your neck ... well, that's not "balloon time" either.

But under normal Abaco conditions, one can blow the horn, launch the balloons, and bump, bump, tie up the boat just fine. The diversion works pretty well ... I mean, that's why in days of yore, the sailing ships would actually fire a cannon! -Sam
