This isn't Abaco, although I have a new-found respect for the sports fishermen who ran into all that seaweed this season so far. Went out from South Padre on Thursday and cleared the jetties by 0600, a little rough inshore but smoothing out about 15 miles out. Clear cobalt blue water. Set out seven lines and two teasers and fast-trolled for wahoo, tuna, and marlin.
And caught seaweed!
Hit all the usual suspects, a canyon, some natural reefs, some rocks, and some large weedlines. The smaller wahoo lures and cedar plugs were no problem to haul in a clear but the large marlin lures, especially the shotgun with the bird on it, like to wear me out, as it was about 100 feet back in blue water outside the prop wash. Hey, a day on the water sure beats a day at work, right?
Anyway, here's a shot of some weed cleaning and the 80-wide shotgun in the first shot, and a chicken dolphin that was on the outrigger and we didn't notice it until we cleared all the other lines. Wah! I wanted to touch a marlin and let him go and ... well some sushi too. -sammie
