We flew with Yellow Air Taxi Service out of Marsh Harbour on Friday and returned today and both flights were on time and all the staff were nothing but the BEST! I personally want to thank Evette and George at the Marsh Harbour airport for doing such a good job they both showed nothing but professionalism at there jobs, when we got delayed stateside we called George and he rescheduled us on the flight this morning and all went well, we were a little over weight $170.00 worth but they did accomadate us and all our stuff came with us! My question on this is why can't these other airlines get it RITE? There has been flight services for over 100 years now through out the US and they just can't seem to get a flight on time! Whats the problem? This is not that complicated you go form point A to point B they know how long it takes but yet they still can't seem to get it RITE! Does any one out there have any ideas that these Airlines could use to get there act together? Just about every other type of travel buisness seem to get it RITE,Trains Busses automobiles Taxis i just can't figure out why the airlines have such a problem! I believe the news orginazations help with there deficiancy because when they talk about the airlines they never have any thing good to say about them only how terrible your next holiday is going to be if your flying to your destination and advise you find another way, Just curious? Respectfully Papanasty

Maybe it's weather related.

Dear Papanasty:

I am so glad that you had a great experience with Yellow Air Taxi. When Christopher and I started this company over five years ago, we were amazed at how poorly travelers were treated when they were flown from point A to B - if they were picked up at all. We thought that we could do a better job at actually delivering on promised transportation.

It involves a LOT of hustling.

Now we certainly have had delays - weather of course, occasional maintenance issues have popped up, and even crew miscommunication or being short staffed - but the culture at Yellow Air Taxi is that everything is done to prevent or reduce those delays. We measure delays in minutes - not hours. I will also tell you that we all feel pretty bad when something is not going right, and we get together afterwards to figure out how to keep that issue from happening again.

Quite frankly, I have no idea what is going on with the other South Florida carriers. We just keep doing what we do best and hope that people will give us a chance. We have found that once people do fly on Yellow Air Taxi that they are pretty likely to fly on us again!

Thanks again!

Beth,
I have heard alot of great reviews of YAT and have yet to fly with you, maybe in the future! We just dread customs in terminal 4, this year was the best we have encountered so far(we flew Gulfstream because it is pressurized for our toddler).

Not much of a rant here! Beth, we haven't flown with you yet, but I like your attitude. From your response I would guess that you are upfront with your passengers when there is a delay and keep them advised of what is going on. Communication sure does go a long way.

Did'nt think there would be much Ranting at least towards Yellow Air but i know some of ya all have had some serious bad experiances recently with the other air lines. It just seems that the service through out the industry has gotten real bad since the price of fuel has sky rocketed!
This should'nt make any differance on the service or planes being on time because all they have done is raised the rates for flying to off set the price for fuel and WE are paying it WE do'nt like it but WE pay it any way! How else are we going to get here SWIM? My Rant on the subject is it seems no matterr how much they raise the rate to fly the service just keeps getting worse and worse,i had gotten to the point were i had been chartering to go back and forth from Abaco and it can get a little more expensive but at least there on time and all your belongings are gauranteed to come with you!
You can also usually bring more than what you would have been able to bring if you flew commercial or by the time you pay them for all the extra weight you fall in to a catagory that you would have paid if you just chartered the plane.
Some one commented on the TSA at Ft. Lauderdale and if you fly with Yellow Air on the out bound to Abaco you do not have to deal with the TSA. We got there this morning about 1/2 hour before take off and i was able to just drop my wife off in front of Yellow Air and drop our belogings and then go up and return the car NO HASSELS! So if you got to fly to Abaco at this point in time it looks like Yellow Air has the best service going and i hope they keep it up Respectfully Papanasty ;) ;)

Hey can I rant for a minute? All hat's off to Beth at Yellow Air Taxi. Not a bad business considering the weather, well known, seems nice, and even responds on this board. I think my Wells parents from Dickie's Cay might know y'all. Wow, it's getting where good things are a rant these days because there's so much BAD NEWS. Next thing you know they'll be talking about hurricanes (92L is out there off Africa). Let's hear it for Beth!

Now can I really rant?

You know them fuel charges? I'd like to see them separated like a base price plus fuel charge, all the fuel, how much it is ... like a trip Lauderdale to Marsh to calculate fuel consumption in gallons, divided by the number of passengers. Here's why: lately I was balking at going out deep-sea fishing and four of us including the captain said we'd split the fuel bill. At first I was shocked, about $200 for just my shares. Well he proved it, a little over 200 gallons at $4.00 per gallon is spot on. I didn't mind the price when I saw that - granted we had zero costs other than water, beer and ice and maybe some sandwiches. But if I saw an honest price for fuel on my bill I'd pay it because that's the cost of staying in the game. Separate em' out, please. -sam

I feel the same way. Everyone is in business to make money, so I am, I will gladly pay for services rendered. It just makes you feel a little better if the price incease is due to fuel costs and that increase is identified as such. I constantly price flights and have become overwhelmed with what some of these airlines are asking for a round trip from FLL to MHH. Once again it is what you will pay for paradise. ALL IN!

The higher cost of fuel is having to be divided between fewer people flying. So the cost to fly will increase disproportionatley to increased fuel costs.

Ya know my comlaint is'nt the increase in ther cost of fuel,it's the unreliability of the airline supplying the service! Fuel canot be the reason for the long and unprdictable delays! They are still getting the fuel they need to fly it's the iresponsible task of getting these flight to there destinations on time! If you have a schedule flight to the Abaco's why is'nt the pilot there to fly the plane, many of the delays are because pilots are'nt were there suppose to be when they are suppose to take off! It's like if i did not get up to go to work and be on the job at 8:00AM my employees will wait untill i get there to tell them what the plan is for the day so it's important that i am up and ready to go by 8:00 am out the door or the men for the most part will just sit around and wait for me to show up! All companys need people with responsability or the whole plan goes to hell and nothing gets done! No one seems to step in and say hey the boss is'nt here but we got to get this plane off the ground or it's going to screw up the whole day. I can remember one flight awhile backwith Continental werethe pilots stay overnight for that first flight in the morning and the pilots showed up on time but the agents did'nt come to work untill almost 2 hours later!
Now i can see one of the agents being a little late but the whole counter crew did'nt show up for that 9 some thing flight it just did'nt make any sence how 3 people could just decide not to come in for the flight and when they did get there it was like it was no big deal! I over slept or some rediculas excuse leaveing some very angry customers that were now going to miss there connecting flights stateside and when this happens it compounds the other flights that are scheduled to take off on time because the first planes never got off the ground on time
I believe if they started to penalize the airline some of this would stop? What do you think? Papanasty

You are so right, Papanasty!

High fuel prices are no excuse for rude agents or delayed flights - unless you put the correlation together that higher fuel costs are causing airlines to look for other ways of saving $$. I will NOT say that carriers might take shortcuts in maintenance, but they might not stock as many spare parts, which could cause maintenance delays. Regarding rude or late agents, much of this could be from them either being overworked (a la short staffing to save money) or not supported by their companies (when things go wrong the are left to figure it out without good information from HQ) or lack of experience (from high turnover rate).

Again, I agree that to blame high fuel prices for the above is only a lazy attempt to look for excuses. Carriers need to look at themselves to improve their image not be looking for something else to blame.

Instead of a penalty to the airlines for poor attitudes and lousy service, you could speak your mind with your wallet. Do not purchase their tickets.

Good question.

Back onto the gas thing, that mostly relates to price, which as we know if going up (in addition to baggage weight costs). Perhaps that is not such a big deal in the Florida-Bahama short hop industry but Southwest seems like the only line running deep discounts these days - and they don't have all these extra hidden charges.

But what Papa was talking about was dependability, or rather the lack of it due to weather (which we can forgive), maintenance, employee issues, and poor logistics (which we can't). We all have our war stories I guess, but some of it is unforgivable. One wonders how an airline can make money, such as when it costs hundreds of dollars to return your luggage when it ends up at the wrong place, sometimes more that what a one-way ticket costs. My dad's response was "those airlines don't."

One thing I don't understand is that if I plan ahead and book a real good rate with Southwest, I can get to FTL for less than $200 round trip, which is way over a thousand miles. The trip from FTL to MHH costs $170 one way, or $340 round trip (just guessing) for about 200 miles. Is the Bahamian government robbing the till or what?

We have had the same guidelines for baggage since we started - it's a math thing (which means it's a safety thing).

40lbs per person - carry-ons included
$1/ lb for anything over
Number of bags is not penalized - in fact I prefer 4 - 10lb bags to one giant 40lb bag - much easier to load in the airplane

I definitely will have YAT T-shirts for you!!
