Presenting the Abaco Forum Best Abaco Picture Contest
You are competing for a daysail on Lokadune, a 37-foot Tayana cutter based on Lubber’s Quarters, most graciously donated by Mark Gonsalves of Cruise Abaco (http://www.cruiseabaco.com/) and Watercolours Cottages (http://www.watercolourscottages.com/). Each Forum member will be eligible to submit up to two photos, and Forum members will likewise vote and determine the winner, who will then have up to one year to claim his/her prize.
Contest Rules and Procedures:
Submit one or two pictures as a reply in this thread. You can identify yourself by username, or your real name. Describe your shots, tell us where and when they were taken, and why you think they are “the best picture of Abaco.” If you don’t know how to post a picture, read the instructions at the end of this post.
You or an immediate family member has to have taken the pictures.
You have from now until midnight, December 20, to enter.
Forum members will be asked to vote from December 21 to midnight, December 28.
You only get to vote once, but you get to vote for three pictures. Your favorite will get three points, second will get two points, third will get one point.
There are no strict criteria for “best picture,” it’s entirely up to you folks.
We’ll tally the votes and post the winner on December 29 (maybe 30 if I get crazed).
You have one year to claim your prize. You can see Lokadune and read about her at www.CruiseAbaco.com (http://www.cruiseabaco.com/). Good luck!!!
How to post a picture:
Here are a few simple tips. First, you have to resize your digital or scanned photo to a maximum height or width of 600 pixels. Most digital cameras come with some type of photo editing software; mine came with Photoshop Elements, but most of them work in more or less the same way. If you don't have any software that will resize your image, you can download the popular software Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/). It's free, and it's simple to use.
Before you start, I suggest you create a temporary file that you can easily access. To resize your image, open your photo editing software, then open the image you want to resize. Typically, on the menu bar at the top you'll see Image, or something similar. Click on that menu, and look for Resize. Make sure you check the box that preserves the height/width proportions, then fill in the larger of either width or height with the number 600. Then, save the image as a High Quality jpg in your temporary file, and give it a name that will allow you to identify it. You can do this with several pictures if you like. Next, go back to the Forum, and click Post Reply under this thread. Scroll past the window where you type your post to the Additional Options box. Click Manage Attachments, then click the first Browse button in the box that appears. This will take you to your computer's directory; browse to the temp file where you parked your picture, then click Upload. If you did it correctly, your picture should appear when you finally click Submit Reply.
The fine print:
Forum owners are not eligible to participate. Mark Gonsalves will do his best to accommodate your schedule, please contact him as soon as you win to arrange a date. Please be aware that he may have a previous charter, and you may have to work around that. You will also need to arrange transportation to Lubber’s Quarters, Tillo, MOW, or White Sound, Elbow Cay.

My husband and I had to cancel our trip for T'giving. He fell off a ladder and may have to have surgery. We had planned to depart Wed.
Tough to come to terms with a lost trip and an injured spouse.
Here are a few of my favorite photos.
Both shots were taken down by Guana Sunset Beach Bar.
Great idea, Dr. R.

Norvell, I've whacked my head on those effing leaning palms twice after one too many Grabbers  .
I have a great idea for a consolation prize, the winner gets to bag and gag MAH.

Now Sal, we really need to play nice here! We will allow a lot of "opinons" but please folks lets don't get personal, it is really not healthy for the Forum's existance.
Two of my favorite pictures :D

Here's one of my favorites, taken by Debby on MOW. It really captures the laidback lifestyle and beauty of the island.
I'll find another to submit soon. Great idea Doctor Ralph! Can't wait to see all the pictures.
WENDY, what about Jerry???? He looks like they propped him up in the chair! Tell me it ain't so Jerry!

Denny, that underwater reef photo is incredible! The sunlight streaming through the water gives it great 3D effect. I'm voting for that one!

That sunset by Hank and Louise was nothing short of spectacular. It speaks to me ... but I like them all! Can't we just get a slightly bigger boat and take everybody?

I think maybe the best thing about being in Abaco is seeing the beautiful shades of blue and green. It's hard to pick just two.

As my first trip to the Ababcos is not until next May, I'll have to post a picture taken by an acquaintance. He said that it was taken somewhere in the Abacos during one of the coldest winters on record. The boat on the left is one of the island ferries.

Not my picture and not the best but that's what I think was the last video cam shot from the Alburys at MOW Marina, mid-2004. My folks' house is hidden behind the mess of boats and rigging. So maybe there's some Brownie points for historical significance here. Credit goes where it should. /Sam
