We don't get large packs of seagulls and other birds diving the water to show us packs of tuna and sailfish, like over in Florida. Here in Texas that is very rare, sometimes for mackerel. But the fishing forums and blogs from Florida all talk about using radar to find huge flocks of birds, and if the birds are there, the fish are there. That's the main reason why those boats have radar - the birds. On a clear day it looks like a green blob on the radar scope.

So that's my question, is if that kind of bird swarming occurs off the Abacos. I haven't seen it, myself. Have you?

I know some of the guys that fished out of Walker's up toward Matanilla used radar to spot birds, lead them to tuna.

Ya Sammie birds are a great telltale, a good open array system can pick up just a few birds, Shearwaters ,Petrals, Gulls etc. Can even show Man o wars, up to 15 miles out. Have had great success using that system in the Northeast as well as Bahamian waters. A highliner said you don,t just shoot up in the air and hope it hits a duck, you find the birds you find the fish!!!!
PS My Bride and I are starting our voyage to Abaco Sunday morning ,We're jumping out of our skins!!!!:D:D:D:D
