I just realized that the Bahamas probably doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving as much as in the US, but wanted to inquire about whether it was a big thang there ... and to extend any Thanksgiving cheer to those that would accept it.

Although not a "holiday", many do celebrate it. My cousins tell me there was a huge "Thanksgiving" dinner at New Visions church in Marsh Harbour yesterday with over 400 in attendance! However this is the time many go stateside to take advantage of the after Thanksgiving Day sales that sends most all of US shoppers into pre-Christmas shopping frenzy too! Look out Miami and West Palm, Here they come!!:D

Bahamians 'celebrate' it only by dint of the fact the country is heavily influenced by it big neighbor. 'Thanksgiving' (in Nov) is an American holiday initiated by the Pilgrim Fathers in c1620 and the Bahamas, not being a part of the US don't officially celebrate it. (It amazed me to discover that some Americans actually think it is part of the US).
Never mind - Happy Thanksgiving everyone.:)

Thanksgiving is a state of mind ... but hey weren't those Pilgrims British subjects? I think the difference between Massachussets and the Bahamas this time of year was that in the Bahamas, you could probably find a sharp stick and get dinner within the hour, whereas up north the weather could be almost intolerable ... hurricane weather with snow and all kinds of freaky stuff like what they're having today.
The story is rather comical if the situation wasn't so miserable for the original Pilgrims. The indians probably provided a little rotten deer jerky, some questionable roots, maybe a few berries, a few oysters, and maybe some roasted corn ... no turkey and all that stuff we romanticize about today. They probably didn't even have a table, for crying out loud.
Give me a sharp stick on the Abacos any day! Happy T-Day,
/Sam
