View Full Version : Rant about Rants

I'm getting tired of rants about murders, "tiefs" as they say in the local dialect, and people being grumpy. You want to add taxes, duties, corruption, politics, and rampant development, how boring. Come on, crime of all kinds has been around since the days of the cave men (and to be pc, cave women too). As the population grows you'll see more of it but by and large, the Abaco is still an "innocent" group of islands that are very safe.
Instead, my beef is as follows:
The Abaco is too dang far away
It's pretty expensive to get there for some reason, too
How dare they have such beautiful water, islands, and people?
For a place within 200 miles of the US, it sure plays hard to get! But my point is that any paradise will have it's low moments. Plus, a rant never solved anything other than making the writer feel good and others feel bad. My rant about the Abaco being so remote and difficult is exactly the same way. Three days before Christmas, my rant is about not ranting so much as seeing the hope, the star in the sky, and the feeling that gives you that shiver down your spine when you're happy. -sammie

I like that Abaco isn't easy to get to. If it was easy, everyone would go and it would be too crowded. Then I'd have to find another place to go.

Amen to that Sammie! That other thread has been beaten to death on the crime issue! This is a very very SAFE place to go, the crime that does happen here is far and few between. It is SAD any time some one gets violated with a break in or loss of there possesions but what do they expect us as citzens to do about it? STAY UP ALL NIGHT? DRIVE AROUND AIMLESSLY WITH GAS AT $6.00 A GALLON ALL NIGHT? COME ON PEOPLE USE SOME COMMON SENCE!!! If YOU are that concerned spend some money and install a simple alarm system that will go off with bells and whistles and run the culprits off before they can steal some thing.I do not believe there is one home on the island with a alarm system that would if the house was broken into would activate a loud alarm that the theives can't get to to disarm. THIS WOULD WORK!! And the more homes that would take the money and time to do this would greatly deter the breakins on the island. All it takes around here is one home to get broke in to with a alarm and they will go some were else to steal meaning another island. I hate crime and we have POLICE on the island and i am sure they are doing all they humanly can do to make a presence to let the criminals know if you steal we will TRY and catch you!I noticed on another board because of the recent thread people are judgeing weather or not they should come.
THIS KIND OF PUBLICITY IS WHAT WE DO NOT NEED!! The economy is off enough we do not need to be running people off because of a couple breakins! So you need to suck it up and improve your own security on your residence to ensure that it does not happen to you again and get over it. PEACE and LOVE and every one have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS RESPECTFULLY PAPANASTY

This thread was begging for correction.
Lucky are those who can escape their crime ridden societies for the relative peace and security of Abaco, when the majority of humanity (including the local, illegal or not, immigrants in the bush) never even come close to covering their basic needs.
Be outraged at the "tiefs" who brought about the current economic melodrama rather than at those who nick a few bucks and some gadgets from people in glass houses.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

You know who has the highest incarceration rate and numbers of jailed in the world? It's not authoritarian regimes like Russia or China, it's the good ole United States. One out of 37 people are or were in jail or prison (source, Department of Justice as reported by the Christian Science Monitor, 2003). Munter has a point - the Abaco is almost lilly white by comparison - the whole of the Bahamas is very low as well. That's why we like to go there, to escape the grim realities of the US, right? How can we beef about the Abaco when it's so stinking bad in our own country?
Such morbid thoughts for Christmas Eve! I hope that Santa is very kind to you and that you put out presents of Kalik and Johnny bread or something like that. Remember to leave a space at the dock and to put the flippers out on the porch. Have fun,
sammie
