Sitting here with phone listening to customer service ring...going on 10 mins now (from the States)...business as usual;)
LOL!!! Yeah, we're lucky if our phone rings let alone stay connected to a call. I was talking to AbacoPeach the other night and I wondered why she hadn't answered a question that I asked! The phone connection was dead and suddenly went in to a fast busy signal. Yep, business as usual.

15 mins of ringing customer service and at long distance rates from the States I gave up.
I would have asked: Is there a deposit and/or a connection charge.
What is the monthly rate?
Can one suspend service while off island?
If anyone knows any answers it will be appreciated.
YP
They actually have a nice web site and it has information on internet service.

Has anyone else noticed that in the mid-afternoon, maybe about 3:00, the telephone service goes bonkers for a while? I was wondering if it was the atmospherics or something. Anyway, we just avoid telephones and VOIP around that time, as at least we tend to get dropped off real quick. ;)

it seems that around that time about 3:15 pm every day you can almost set your whatch by it Radio Abaco goes very quite or the Audio portion quites entirely. SamFam do you have any explanation for this considering your technical background? any help would be appreciated Thanks Rich G.

Gosh I really have no idea. Maybe a process of elimination would help. Is aircraft or marine VHF affected at that time? Could it be a weird satelite pass? Is Batelco on a siesta break (LOL)? I'm stumped, my friends.

First post was 30 Nov on this subject. Since then untold number of phone calls to 3 numbers...2 for Batelco, one for listed external provider (Batelco web page per Pat's post.) NADA! Either no answer or a busy signal.
Now it's a Holy Grail type of thang...I will get through!
On the other hand I may just end up having to walk through their doors on island.

Hi YP,
If you think it's bad trying to buy the service, just imagine how wonderful it will be when you run into problems :)!
Seriously, we know many, many folks who finally switched from DSL to alternatives like cable, wireless from OII (abacoinet.com) and in some cases satellite because of terrible performance and almost-impossible-to-get service techs -- we were quite surprised by PatW's post.
We'd highly recommend alternatives if they are available to you.
Good luck!

When did I start calling?
Anyhow...DSL is not for me. I say that disregarding the technical side...that is...will it work every day etc. Batelco will not provide service without a contract for a minimum of 6 months with no provision for suspension of service during months off island. Not an good $ proposition for us. On to wireless or back to dial-up (Note: Cable Bahamas has had our $100 deposit for almost a year and despite numerous calls we have never heard a further word from them. As you know they have closed their local office leaving them with our 100 bucks and quite a few other people's bucks as well.)
