I am now helpng a forum over in lower Texas and there is a ton of traffic but the ole EZ-Board software, while easy to install, is hacked pretty bad. OK, "sieve-like" comes to mind. I don't think you know how hard it is to keep porn and pills off these servers - I bet our AMB and Abaco Forum mods watch it like a hawk. Please PM me or let me know of a low cost alternative that does't require me to become a SQL and Apache expert.
I'm about at wit's end ... I have new found respect for the people running this board!

Sammy, we get the same type of spam, you just have to keep an eye on the board and delete it and the "member" when it appears.
As for our software Vbulletin, it is very complex; you need an experienced veteran to install and program it. You also need a big server with large bandwidth. This is no small undertaking.

THanks, DrRalph, maybe I should ask to be able to delete the "member" when I talk with the owner. I had no idea what I was walking into here - these new "bots" and things seem to generate spam all by themselves! /Sam

You folks can't see it, but the Mods and I have several buttons and icons on our views that allow us to quickly delete, edit, or move a post or a thread as soon as we see it. That is one of the strengths of vBulletin.
It's a little trickier to delete a member, that involves entering the vBulletin Admin control panel, which is sort of like what Dorothy encountered when she entered that dark, scary forest. Each time I do it I say a little prayer that the Forum is still there when I come crawling back out.

Does your Admin control panal have dark pages with with lettering? It's like entering a cave with stalagmites and stalactites waiting to chomp down and devour trespassers.

I administrate an EZBoard and do not find it too challenging. It is worth it to pay for a Gold Community, you still get spam but not too much to handle.
EZBoard is completely web based and although it has been hacked a couple of times in the last few years, we have never lost posts.

Good to know that, C/C. I have to admit, once I learned the administrative duties EZ-Board was quite forgiving, very simple. The current owner is a world competition sand sculptor and simply doesn't have the time. Isn't that a neat job title, though? /Sam

Sounds like a neat (dirty) job!
