I really like what I've seen so far here. But I'm not clear on why another board. Are there difficulties (technical or other) with the msg forum that you're working around? Or are you looking at a different audience? Or are you just having way too much fun doing and thinking all things abaco?
Cheers, Alison

if the Bundy's and Summey's have anything to do with it then it should be a class act......I just hope we can make some reasonable comments without being moderated......Ken

Take a look at the Board Intro (http://abacoforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33), we've set out our gaols and policies, and the why's and why nots. And yes, Ken, we're moderated. Sorry, but we've spent a couple of $K so far, and we need the advertising revs.

Now Dr Ralph some good folks were over at AbacoMessageBoard asking if this was legit and I tested it after setting my security to Max and was about to say it was safe here ... and was Nuked by mods in mid-sentence. So, there is a wee tad of intrigue here. Could you please elucidate, Doc? A slight falling out or changing of the guard? A little honesty would go a long way here.

Once agin, please read the Board Policies and Introduction, I can't make it any clearer. We are a new organization, our goal is to be stronger, broader, more comprehensive, more secure.
This is the artist formerly known as R.
I only hope that I might be axed less here than there.

I am aware that this board is moderated but am hoping that the moderator's judgment might be more illuminated than others. I just made a post on the old board that illicited some pm's and emails to me that indicated that they don't post on the old board any more because of the rediculous "moderating" policies or 'interpretations" if you will. I have great confidence in you and your board comrades. I know you have the abilities to operate a successful board. I simply hope that you do not relent to any "pressure" that an isolated advertiser may try to impose as opposed to allowing accuracy and the truth........television news has the same decision to make......the disgruntled folks who don't post on the old board anymore are simply an opportunity for you to reach them with proper policies.......myself included. your friend, Ken

Just curious where the old message board fell short and what this board will offer as an incentive to change.
Seems sad that Barbara has been spending a lot of time in straightening out the myriad of sites and links left by Sinclair and you've pulled the rug out from under her with all the exposure she has given Dr. Ralph.

Nobody is pulling the rug out from under anyone! Is there some unwritten rule out that there can't be two Abaco message boards? Last time I looked, I was living in a free country and I have choices. People can't look at two message boards? Hell, I look at probably 10 message boards. I have been reading the Abaco Message Board almost since its inception. Is Barbara going to hang me from the highest tree because I look at other message boards besides hers????!!!

Dr Ralph didn't need any exposure that the old board may or may not have afforded him.....he's kept every email address that he's ever met......that being said.....if the new board is just as restrictive as the old then there will be no difference in the two......I expect it to be a "little" more tolerant and less gestapo.......Ken

Tolerance is the thing here I gather. This forum will be more liberal towards its tolerance of controversy. That's a good thing. I have had a few posts deleted at Barbs site. I just never new who made that decision. Fact is at one time, I thought Dr. Ralph was a secret moderator :-)
Do you suppose this site will Advertise in the future? That's OK too. just curious as how much this forum will mirror the original.
Staying tuned.

Dr. Ralph had been trying to get Sinc to update the yellow links for two years. He even offered to do it for Sinc since he was so tied up with the wireless business. So Ralph created his website. Ralph showed it to Sinc and he added Dr. Ralph's website as a link on the Abaco Message Board. He neither asked Sinc to do it nor did he do it for this so called exposure. I guess you could say he has incorporated his website into a message board. What could possibly be wrong with that?

Hopefully this board will be a little bit more openminded than the other one, it was getting to be way too regulated.Glad to see most everyone has signed up for this board as well.

Well....several comments. Sandy, I was never a secret moderator over there, or anything else, just trying to get the info out to the people, which is what this site is all about.
Yes, we are going to advertise, we don't have enough traffic to approach the businesses yet, that will come.
But, we are accepting classified ads right now, and they will be free for the first month, because, frankly we haven't set up a way to collect money yet.
As for tolerance, there's a fine line that we are going to walk. For example, we don't want to have a 20-post thread every day about a certain development. It's pointless, we've heard about it ad nauseum, and it drives a lot of people and potential advertisers away. If there is new "news," someone can mention it and put up a link. But it does no good to flog this (and similar issues) every time they come up.
Same for some of the wacky things that the Bahamian government does. In 2000 I was terribly guilty of this when they bumped the price of the cruising permit to $150/$300. I think I ranted on the old board for days, and that was actually pretty selfish and stupid. As my esteemed and respected friend Abaco Peach says, "It's just a little web board. What do you think you are going to accomplish?"
Consider some of the other boards that relate to the Bahamas and Abaco that allow opinions and name-calling. I cringe when I visit them, those people say some awful things about each other. They have a terrible time getting advertising, and they often collapse within a short time. If you're going to be main-stream, you have to behave main-stream. We have spent a more than a few bucks getting this site going, and none of us are "wealthy" enough to fund it privately so that visitors can be obscene, nasty, disrespectful, or just tastelessly voluminous.
So we ask that when you offer an opinion, you do it with tact, respect, and tolerance (tolerance is contagious), and realize that if it gets ugly or becomes a pile-on, the thread is probably going to be closed.

Ya know we love pile-ons......Right now I'd like to be in Abaco piling on da pounds with some lobster, conch salad and home-made Johnny-cake.....Dat's for Sat nite......then on sunday 'ol Johnny's pig-roast with that great Bahamian Mac and cheese...yeeeessssss! Washed down with a couple bottles o'Red.........ken

I answer e-mails all day long from members of the Abaco Message Board answering questions that they are not allowed to ask on that board about the "certain development". I am sorry that you feel that the Bakers Bay situation has been talked about to a sickening or excessive degree.

Dr. Ralph, About being a moderator, I was just being facetious. But on the more serious question, what really is to be different in this forum.
Are you undertaking this endeavor alone or with support of selected groupies. Abaco Peach has a lot to say and seems quite defensive almost to the point of being involved in the forums development or minimally moral support. Is that a correct assumption? Hopefully this forum is not agenda driven or has hidden special interests or for a selected group of buddies.
Again the bottom line question: What will be different? Will it be tailored to different demographics - an appeal to a specific age or type of traveler or boater. Maybe its more miles to the gallon or better taste.
Until I conclude otherwise, I'm neutral on the whole situation and take a wait and see attitude.
In the meantime it might be nice gesture on your behalf to ask Barbara to remove your links.

hmm, Sandy,
you sound a tad contentious and judgmental for somebody who is so neutral.
but, then, maybe you know something i don't? (i confess to being out of the loop.)
meanwhile, why not just let the new site develop and we'll all see what it is or isn't going to be.
thanks,
PeteR

I was removed today from Sinc's site. That's really sad considering how much time and effort I put into it. When Sinc was faced with having his site shutdown in the face of a hurricane, I put up the board still in use there today as a favor for a friend. Being in Texas, I had a 3 day advantage on that particular storm. I am proud of what Dr. Ralph has done here, the folks he has brought together, and will never look back. The high road continues to be the clear path to success.
