Hi all, Well, we're finally down to double digits and we are SO excited! (Patti, I think you have us beat by 1 day!) 99 days until we touch down in paradise. I can't wait to wake up to a gorgeous sunrise, feel the balmy weather, listen to Cruiser's Net, drink numerous Kalik golds, fish, swim, feel the white sand between my toes, see that clear turquoise water, drink numerous rum thangs, get some lovin' from my hubby on a deserted beach:o, and maybe meet a few of you great folks!

We just bought a Canon Rebel XTI EOS camera with a whammy jammy lens. If we finally break down and read the manual, maybe we'll know how to use it by then and take some really great photos for our trip report.

That is a significant milestone! Especially this winter....
We are looking forward to the same things....and I really like Kalik Gold too, with a grouper burger.....yum!
You know, I think I could set foot on a beach, and just stare out at the beautiful Abaco blue/green water - and be in a daze for quite some time. I have to remember to take a breath.
Tick-tock.....
Thanks for the motivation Tina!

We are now less the a month - 27 days and one VERY LONG trip from Vancouver, and we will be in paradise. It's been a very long year waiting.

Hope the great weather sticks around for us

Anyone else for a count down??

Riss, you are so lucky! Vancouver, that is a long trip. I thought ours was long from San Diego. Where are you staying?

Patti, how are we going to survive these 3+ months?

Well, the stupid weekly snow storms are not helping.... we are getting our 6th consecutive weekend snow storm tomorrow! I think when I get to Abaco, I'll start shovelling just out of habit when I see the white sand beach...hah!
Today, I went in and took inventory of my sun dresses. And, I have my list going of things to bring or pack. But, I am determined not to bring too many clothes this time! 3 swimsuits, a sun dress or 2, and some shorts.
And, of course, this forum....ya gotta love it!
That's it:rolleyes: .

This will be our 7th year visiting, mostly due to the fact that my In-laws have a home on Scotland Cay. It's a long trip, especially with a three year old, but well worth it .... a truly if i were to choice, i would rather visit my In-laws in Abaco then in Ontario any day.

This will be our son's 3rd visit. He is very excited, and is insistent on seeing a barracuda this time. Hopefully we can buy a glass bottom bucket, i think that will be the only way i will let him see a barracuda :)

Riss, it must be wonderful to see Abaco through a childs' perspective. But I could do without the barracuda too!

Patti, that seems to be the hardest thing for me when I travel. I just bring way too many clothes. It would be so nice to just bring a carry on but with the restrictions (and the fact that Rick has to bring all his fishing stuff) it's just not going to happen. Oh, I forgot all our snorkle gear too...looks like we'll be bringing lots of stuff so I might as well bring a ton of clothes! Just kidding, I really am going to try not to. Maybe I need a 12 step program, waddya think?

Tina, find you a cay that you are comfortable with for a "home base", make some really good friends like Pat and Sidney Weatherford and the Roberts family on Guana, bring or buy a couple of hard sided 48qt coolers when you get there and leave stuff there when you go :) Most will be happy to stick a cooler in a closet or basement for you, heck the Weatherfords even allowed/built us a shed for our golf cart and other junk:cool: Of course Sidney has all of his tools stored in there as well, **** convenient though.. LOL:D

Jerry, sounds like a great plan, especially for the snorkle stuff. Don't think I could get Rick to part with any of his fishing gear tho'. (BTW, he's out fishing right now. Hopefully, he'll do well. It's been really slow here-so slow I had to resort to buying fish!) Although, come to think of it, he might be talked into leaving his gear if he can buy duplicates of everything!

Tina, as AbacoSkippy says, it's only money, we can make more :)

the underware that is......a tremendous waste of space for an Abaco visit......for a one week visit I have NEVER had my single bag weigh more then 18 lbs.......and that's with a VHF radio and charts.......for a guy....let's see.....a "mini" shaving kit (get 'em at Walmart) for all toilet articles. 1 pair boat shoes, 1 pair reef walkers (walmart 6.95) no socks, no underwear, 1 pair swim trunks with pockets, 2 pair Khaki shorts, 2 printed T-shirts, 1 golf shirt for formal nite out, vhf radio, passport, painkiller for hangovers(or you can buy locally some REALLY good stuff) that's about it. If any of this stuff get's dirty enuff, wash it at the local laundry because this is a lot easier than lugging all of your Paris Hilton "stuff". Ken:D

Well those baggage screeners have a taste for lotions and underwear, so they can probably lighten up the load for ya pretty good! :D

Underwear? Who said anything about underwear?

Ken, I do need to know more about the local hangover medication tho!

Abacoparrott

It's been years since I've bought it due to my heart meds.....however, PatW can correct me if I'm wrong but you can buy it at Guana Grocery and probably most stores in Abaco. I believe the name was 222's......this is powerful stuff and will kick a headache's butt. You can't bring it back into the states (even years ago)......too strong. IF I didn't have the "heart thang" and IF they still sell it, I wouldn't be without it. Heck, I could drink all the red wine I want with no fear of tomorrow! Actually, I'm a bit surprised that the "old" Abaco visitors don't mention it on this fine forum......hope some local chimes in here and gves us up-to-date info on this wunnerful drug........Ken:D

They don't sell 222's anymore! BUT they do sell another which has the same ingredient, Codeine! Its sold in the Guana Harbour Grocery.
When Mags and I were in the flipping golf cart, we bought some to help with the pain of the cuts and bruises. Not thinking, I put it in my bag when we were packing to come back to the states. OF COURSE, my bag was searched and Customs said, "Do you know this is a $500.00 fine to carry this back?" I told him "take it, I forgot I had it, honestly!" I started babbling about our "accident" and even pointed out my torn ear and Mags bruises. He suddenly was very sympathetic and just let us go. He said we looked like we had been through enough. Whew! Scary moment there folks!
To really top it off. The next trip back, we get to Daytona and guess who the Custom officer is, yeah you guessed it, the same man. He looked at Mags and said. "Hey, I remember you. What's in the bags this time?"

My son is coming down for about 2 1/2 weeks (32) and than my daughter and husband and the twins will be down for one week (President's week). So, I know she will definitely want to rent a boat during the week and take the kids to Nipper's pool and maybe she can snorkel out there for a bit. The first week we are staying in MH and will take a ferry over and want to tour Guana. I guess rent a golf cart. Have never been any further than drop off of ferry to Nippers and back. Want to see what the island looks like as best as we can. Finally packing.

Rick: Sounds like were on similar countdowns. We (my wife Denise & I along with two friends) arrive for our first trip to the Abacos on 5 May and will be there through the 14th. We've booked "Beach Lubbers" on the SE end of Lubbers. Maybe we should consider starting our own Board Meeting. Hope to see you guys there.

Chuck, We'll be at the small cottage at Watercolours for a week starting on the 5th. Let's get together for some cocktails and/or buddy boating. May's supposed to be a great month for the fishies.

and, it is supposed to get ALL THE WAY UP to 50 this week! Gotta put the top down on the car for that! (Didn't mention any "s__w" words).
Tina, I know you guys are going to try and come to Guana one day... but Chuck M., as I said in an earlier post... we would love to come to Marsh and meet up with everyone for a board meeting too. We are also thinking of taking a day and renting a car to go back down to Little Harbour and Cherokee.Gotta love the double-digits!:D

Patti, Depending on the weather, maybe a meeting at Pete's Pub might be fun. Rick has never been there (I went twice in November), I know he would really like it. Actually a meeting in Marsh would be a last resort because I am going to have a hard time getting hubby to go in to the 'big city' even if it is for only a few hours! We'll definitely be visiting Guana so we'll hopefully meet up with you there either way.

I can't believe our countdowns are already in the 80's!!!!!!

Pete's sounds good to me. Although this is our first trip to the Abacos, Pete's is near the top of our list of places to see as we have heard so much about it.

We arive on the 5th and are at Beach Lubbers from the 5th to the 12th, then we are at the Conch Inn on the 12th & 13th, departing on the 14th....
