Kevin at Island Boy Tackle & Marine has local-caught frozen ballyhoo for $9 a "dozen". I tried counting the eyes and dividing by 2, but they kept staring back at me and I lost count. I'm pretty sure there are more than a dozen in the bag.

They run smaller than the imported ones from Venezuela, maybe 3/4 size, but that should not matter for inshore trolling which is mostly what I do. I like the 3/4 price too.

I'm not sure that a lot of visitors know about Kevin's shop. It's in Marsh Harbour, upstairs above Jamie's Place restaurant. (Another fine establishment, same family, where you will not go away hungry.) It's about a 300 yard walk east of Conch Inn, just past the road to Boat Harbour. He carries an excellent selection of tackle and some marine parts. He can make up whatever fishing rig you need on the spot.

Highly recommended!

I've been paying a buck each for frozen ballyhoo no longer than 12 inches with the beak, local TX catch.

Works on the outside for a variety of fish including marlin when in season.

Nice lead for the weehoo fishermen out there; thanks mon. :)

That's funny Bob. I don't remember Jamie's as having an upstairs. Now you have me thinking...But, Jamie's has the best breakfasts in Marsh Harbour!

The upstairs is only a couple of years old. Kevin is indeed a great guy along with the rest of his family.
