Just looked at the local weather in MH but was wondering if anyone knew the water temp? I realize it has been colder the past couple of days in FL so was just wondering overall....it appears it is suppose to warm up by Sat??????http://abacoforum.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

Miami water is 76 and the Abacos should be in the low 70's. That's really nice compared to our South Texas waters of about 52. It must be in the 40's up in New Jersey! Not sure about the 5-day forecast. /sammie

This site is usually fairly accurate for our area.

Thanks guys, yeah Sammie our waters are cold, the bay is partially frozen in spots but we have a bubbler system along the dock so we won't lose it while we are away. Sometimes we use to lose our complete dock than as the area became more sophisticated people started putting bubbler systems in. Only thing is years ago the kids could ice skate and they had a blast. I use to have a selection of skates, all the neighborhood kids would come and borrow them, hot chocolate the whole nice fun thing that now is done in rinks, etc. Kind of lose something, you know? Our winters use to get soooo cold in the seventies that cars would drive on the bay. Thank God, we don't get them anymore. One day, I was sitting onthe couch looking out and saw a pickup go by! Thought I was hallucinating!
PatW I checked that site originally but I did not see water temp, checked again, still didn't am I missing something?

OK, I have been relatively good and trying not to whine....
but here are 2 pictures on our back patio taken 5 minutes ago....that are STILL from the December blizzards. We are due for our 7th consecutive weekend storm starting this Thursday. It has gotten VERY old. I am happy to be able to make it the 5 feet to the hot tub.

Not necessarily, BahamaAngie, sea temps in the Abaco can be markedly different from Miami due to the Gulf Stream. There doesn't seem to be a comprehensive or reliable source of Abaco water temperature data but there are some sea surface temperate (SST) satelites, such as:

http://marine.rutgers.edu/mrs/sat_data/?product=sst&region=bahamas&nothumbs=0

So you can see that the eastern side might be in the low 70's but sure enough, east or north of some islands, it can be in the 60's. If you're swimming in it, that would be a HUGE difference. Most of this stuff is experimental but there are some pretty pictures. /sammie

P.S. PatW, 70 degrees feels freezing to me, too!

Patti Puzo, awesome pictures, aren't your dogs getting tired of all that, too? At least the drought might fade away the the wildfires not so bad ... come on down to SPI sometime. /sammie

I just put my hand in the harbour water and it actually feels much warmer than I expected. The temp is suppose to dip to 62 tonight but some say they heard it would be in the high 50's.

Yeah, I think when you are from the south 70 does feel cold but that is normally our higher temps here in NJ sometimes 74 but quite honestly 70 degrees water temp feels chilly to me but with me I think it is becoming age related. I loved the water temp in June in TC but we usually try and get away in the winter months. July was way tooo hot for us. patti Puzo unless you are really like skiing, I think it is time to either relocate or become a snow bird. Way too much snow for me!
