It is being reported that The BEC Chairman has retired or resigned (same effect either way).

Some will be glad that this has happened, some will not!

His replacement is a Mr. Moss - former Manager of Broadcasting Corp. of The Bahamas.

I wonder how this may or may not change things.

The Chairman took a lot of heat from all sides including our Government concerning Wilson City and I believe he is disgusted and tired. How will this change things at Wilson City?....... Not at all I think. The Chairman did his job as he was directed and it is a done deal.

I would speculate that since Mr. Moss is an "unknown" on the Abaco scene, those opposed to the Wilson City situation will have a harder time finding someone who will listen to them.

Fred took as much as he could, to the point of it affecting his health.

Forget about Wilson City, it is a done deal! The best thing for both BEC and BTC would be to fire everyone with a white shirt and tie! What horribley run companies.

Say BTC......Just the other day the trash truck ripped the phone line from my house, while driving by going from the Depot to the dump.So down to the BTC office I go and wait for the lady to get off the phone from her obviously personal call.I tell her that the trash truck tore the line from my house, the phone is out and it needs to be repaired.

The lady says to me. "Ya'll need to call the repair number and report it." I say lady,I just came down here from my house to tell you my phone line down. Doone you think I would have called the repair number if my phone was workin? She says. "Ok then I'll write it down" I mean what is up with these people?

And then you see how poorly ZNS was run and wonder if you want him involved with your power and the furture of Abaco. Now you have someone that has no ties to Abaco. Do you think he is going to give a damn if a little bunker c goes floating around!!!!

Mornin' Cousin Stone, lil chilly here in MHH this morning, but not as cool as where you are.

Hey, let us start a drive to thro one retirement party for Fred. He should be made aware that some of us appreciate him and his efforts on behalf of Abaco.

News from the newly appointed BEC chairman.

BEC chair 'saddened' by finance weakness

THE NEWLY-appointed Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) chairman told Tribune Business yesterday that he was "saddened" by its current financial position, and pledged to assist in moving it to better financial position.
Michael Moss said he believes BEC can be restored to its glory days, but acknowledged it will be an extremely challenging process to undertake.
"It is a bit saddening for me to see what it is today," said Mr Moss, with BEC having suffered a $16 million net loss in its 2008 financial year, after falling more than $21 million into the red in 2007.
Mr Moss said he would have a feel for the direction he wants to take BEC in when he meets with its executive management team this month.
He added that BEC was once a well-managed organisation, and hopes to bring the Corporation back to a similar standing.
Though Mr Moss has been chairman of BEC for three months, he admitted he has not yet had the opportunity to delve into the position. However, he gave this paper an idea of where he stands on issues regarding BEC.
According to him, the Wilson City power plant controversy has dwarfed other important BEC issues, and he asserted that the new plant is necessary for Abaco's development. Mr Moss said, however, that the needs of the society should be balanced with the needs of the environment, and that "if there is anything that was a little unfortunate, there should have been a little more upfront dialogue".
Mr Moss said the Town Meeting approach has been adopted to consultation on government projects, and it has become a posture that government should adhere to.
Renewable energy has also been a major theme in the battle between environmental groups and government regarding the new Abaco power plant, and Mr Moss is "all in favour of renewable energy".
However, he believes individuals need to know the extent to which renewable sources can be integrated into the existing grid. Mr Moss said renewable energy often ends up costing more than fossil fuels, and there should be a gentle push toward green power.
Mr Moss also agreed that the privatisation of BEC will open up more opportunities for accessing capital, improving customer service, and enhancing technology.
"The sale of BEC is the direction that most governments are moving in order to put more of a business look on things, and that are better left in the hands of a business person," he said. Mr Moss was employed by the corporation almost 30 years ago and was chief generating engineer when he left. He now owns his own energy management consultancy business.

On paper, Mr. Moss sounds like a voice of fresh air. I don't hear much about any privatization issues, but maybe that will come with the Japanese investors. He seems to recognize the Wilson City brouhaha and the need for clean energy. How refreshing! Thanks for the post-em-up, PatW. Three smileys for ya!
:) :) :)

edit - the Doktor needs to add some better smilies???
