Just finished watching on ESPN at 9:30am a great fishing show based at the Abaco Lodge. "Pirates of the Flats." 3 pairs of anglers off to 3 different areas south of Abaco fishing for bones. Included Mike keaton, the founder of Patagonia clothing and some older legends. Narrated by Tom Brokaw. Jeff Pinder was one of the guides. Excellent show.:D

Great Program. Fished the Flats a few times but Cherokee Sound is still my best producing, best guided area for bonefish. Marty if you see this, when are they going to show you guiding ? The boats are 1st class and I had a great time fishing one this past September.

Hey Mark,
They filmed the series last April / May - Marty did not go to work for them until mid-May.
However he is in the newer pictures at the lodge.
They filmed a lot of the shots right out by Point of Spit in Cherokee Sound. We would see them every day as we went out fishing.
Marty has done some photo shoots for fly fishing magazines since he went to the Lodge, including a Shark fishing series where Marty was bitten by a five foot Lemon Shark - I will let you know when they are released.
Flip Pallot was also down in May filming, and will be back this April / May,
Marty fished Flip, and Sandy Moret a few days.

R.

I am p***ed that I missed the show, but glad that some of the boys from Cherokee are getting some publicity. They are among the best guides out there.
This is a six episode series that is on ESPN 2 Sunday mornings at 9. It will start repeating in February. Go to espn.com and put Pirates of the Flats in the search box for much more info including behind the scenes and bloopers.
We'll be visiting Elbow Cay for a week in June, renting a boat and hope to fish every day. This show has really gotten us excited. The photography is so beautiful. We're looking for a guide for the first day or 2 to help us get oriented. Any suggestions?
Out of Elbow Cay - I would try Maitland Lowe for inshore/flats fishing, and Robert Lowe on Seagull also out of Hope Town for offshore.
Roberts web-site is: http://www.seagullcottages.com/

Maitland's number is 242-366-0234
He used to guide Curt Gowdy and is highly recommended.
Thank you for the guide suggestions. We (4 adults, 2 teenagers) are staying in a house near Abaco Inn with our own dock, originally, we thought we'd get a boat for the week. Now the guys think they want a guide for at least 2 days to get them oriented. Think we should still get the boat for the week? Can't find one for less than $1500. Would use it for snorkling too.
