View Full Version : Spam on AMB implies "Forum Team" responsible

There is a post on the AMB (http://abacomessageboard.com/) from Mermaid titled "Notice!!!" alerting members to spam-PMs that are being sent from "Forum Team." I responded in the thread that these are not being sent by us. In fact, I received the same PM at my AMB account. My post was deleted within 15 minutes.

Many of you read the AMB as well as the Forum, and since they will not let us publish a denial on their site, Mermaid's post does nothing to dispel the notion that we are the culprits.

So let us be very clear: we have no presence on the AMB, we are not sending spam PMs or emails to their membership, and we are disappointed that they will not allow us to publicly so state.:(

maybe those who are members on both could post your message Ralph?
can't we all live together nicely? except for the uncensored message board I guess.

Can't we all get along?

Ralph, I read the Notiice message from Mermaid at the AMB, and I did not get the impression that she is pointing a finger at this board. I think she is saying that there is a spammer who is going by the user name "ForumTeam". Previous one was "ManInBlack".

We didn't see it as intentionally pointing a finger, but it certainly intimates it enough to allow a disclaimer/clarification.

Culp gave it a shot-see how long his disclaimer lasts over there.

So why was my 12-word disclaimer deleted within 15 minutes? I did nothing to promote the Forum, I merely stated that the PMs that were being sent to their members in our name had nothing to do with us.:(

Ralph...there is a message on the other board explaining the name and saying where it is from and how it is a 'generic" name being used by spamers.

I saw it; I guess that's some degree of absolution.

The problem has nothing to do with board rivalry. It's a huge problem all across the internet right now for all vBulletin based forums. I have been working on and tweaking a solution for a couple of weeks now. It was so bad this weekend, I shut down all new registrations. At one point, it was running 66% spammer registrations.

All of my daughter's friends and email lists were sent an email saying that she was in London and mugged by gunpoint and needed money desparately. She was locked out of all her accounts and had to get a new password for everything! What a mess! Scary how someone can do all that! She was getting calls from just about everyone she has ever emailed to.

If you have Registered Users + as your user title, it means you will have the same rights to PM's as you always have had. Anyone else will have *very* limited use of the PM system. To get to the Registered Users + status, you will need to have been a member here for a week along with having at least 10 posts. This strategy has worked effectively for me on 2cool and it should do the same here.
