Reports: Marsh Harbour airport has been forced to close to US flights

Published On:Friday, July 30, 2010
Reports reached The Tribune late last evening that Marsh Harbour international airport has been forced to close to incoming flights from the United States.
Minister of Tourism and Aviation, Senator Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace told The Tribune at around 8pm that he was seeking more information on the matter as he did not have the full details having spent the day in the Senate.
"I'm trying to get the full story," he told The Tribune. Unconfirmed reports are that the airport was shut off to incoming U.S. flights due to there being inadequate fire services to satisfy the US’s Federal Aviation Administration standards at the site after a fire truck malfunctioned.

I'm hoping that someone local knows more about this situation. I know they were having problems with fire trucks but I didn't know it was this bad. I hope it all got straightened out and this is old news.

Thanks Dr. Ralph for the link. I tried calling the airport but something was going on with my phones, every number I called was busy.

No the airport was not closed. The firetruck evidently was not up to FAA standards for some reason as the airport was undergoing a routine FAA inspection. The reserve Firetruck was called out and saved the day. Several Part 121 Airlines were delayed as this is required equipment. Hope this helps..

Thanks Randy. I am expecting guests tomorrow and when I read the article, I didn't know what to believe.

This does not affect the 135 operators (fca, yellow, locair, bia, twin etc), this only affects 121 operators which at this point are only american and continental.

I do know that some flights were canceled last night into MHH, but that had nothing to do with the FAA. Airlines having mechanicals or just deciding to cancel non-profitable flights are going to try and blame it on the FAA since this story has already surfaced!!! I saw it happen already. Lol
