View Full Version : Why are the bahamas keeping us from getting to the Bahamas

Hi folks. Don't usually rant. Haven't been back to the Abacos for a few years. Probably our favorite place. Used to be special. Not sure anymore from what we read constantly on the Board. Kathy and I have been bouncing back and forth on where to go this spring. Keep being drawn south to you know where. Always flew BahamasAir for the price. Granted we had some serious problems one year but we're over that. Has nothing to do with the fact that I have to break down my fishing rods on the terminal floors and reconfigure, etc. Hopefully, he's still catching fish with my then new rod that didn't make it onboard. Anyway, what's up with the flights that now take you from FLL to nassau then to MHH. Anywhere from a 5-12 hour overnight layover. Never mind that the fees and taxes are 50% of the price of the original ticket. This is ridiculous. That's all I have to say on this snow crazy day in Boston. Mike

All right folks, last time I asked you for money we were trying to buy Guana Seaside Village and turn it into a condotel. If you haven't sent in your $ yet (we're still about $2.9 mil short), whadya say we pool our jing, buy/lease some planes, rent booths at MHH and FLL, and open Forum Airways. We'll get haolenate to manage it, CargoCat can be Chief Mechanic, Sammie Chief Pilot (can he fly?), and PatW can be station manager in Abaco. Three round-trippers/day, special discounts during low season. Fishing rods, animals, coolers, all welcome. We'll have flight attendants in bikinis serving free rum drinks, Gulley Roosters music en route.

Yes, delirium, I know, it's supposed to go down to 27 tonight here in Ormond, I'm almost out of rum, my hands and feet are cold, the heat is going non-stop, sorry...

I was actually looking this morning. It looks like flying into Nassau on which ever airline and then Bahamas Air into MH is the most cost effective route.

Isn't that the Virgin Air guy in the pic?

It's going down to 17 tonight and we still have a good bit of snow on the ground from Sunday night (7 in.). We had our first White Christmas (3 to 4 in.) since 1882. This is what "they" call a mild winter???!!!

Had a nice flight on Bahamas Air from Nassau to MHH last Wednesday. Had to change return flight on Sunday due to Delta cancelling our original flight to Atlanta (due to the impending snow storm) and sticking us on an earlier one. Caught Sky Bahamas. The flight left MHH early and 25 minutes later landed in Nassau before our scheduled departure - go figure.

Great experience with both airlines. Especially nice clearing US custom in Nassau before departing and not having to deal with it in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.

Sammie Chief Pilot (can he fly?)

Sure, a couple of Kaliks and rum thangs and I'm zooming at your service! Just kidding ... I'm working on that climate changey warming thing, which looks a little better towards Sunday.

Ignore the pooh-talk about the Abacos. Folks are having a great time over there even if you have to wear Big Boy Pants now and then when it blows chill from the north. I fear that my parents might have taken over another cay and planted their flag!

Sorry about the rum thang Dr Ralph. Plenty of chianti up here on the hill above the beach. Snow has stopped finally. In the 20's with a 20-30 mph wind from the NW. I feel for you guys down south with this crazy weather. It should only go on up here. Stay warm. We are.

You may be surprised by a good fare and reasonable travel times OR not!

Love your dream, Dr. Ralph! Too bad we didn't hit that big jackpot then we could have invested right?

On AA, from MCO (Orlando) to MHH is running $567 r/t for travel 4/30 - 5/7 (which are my planned dates this year). Can't say that I"m surprised in a good way about that fare.

Try flying Jet Blue to Nassau from Orlando @ 49$ one way, then Bahamas air to Marsh Harbour for about 180 RT, I;m doing this next week.
Or drive to West Palm Beach and fly for 275 RT with Bahamas Air to Marsh Harbour

We found quite nice prices and fights from Providence. USair from PVD to PBI for $133, connecting to Bahamasair at 12:30 for another $122. Total of $255 one way. Have had great luck with Bahamasair being ontime and not cancelling. (Actually verified their flight times with flightaware.) Parking is cheap at PVD $55/wk or the new Amtrak stop at PVD. Just maybe an option!

We've flown USAir to Nassau, with a few hour wait for the connection on Bahamasair to MHH the last several visits, and it hasn't been a bad trip at all. This year we were able to book flights through West Palm, which we like to do, but honestly, Nassau isn't a bad connection if you can make your MHH connection the same day.

just did a search for round trip flights from Palm Beach to Marsh around July 4th and Bahamasair had one flight for $223 round trip..direct to MH. That price included fees but not taxes. Check out www.cheapoair.com they seem to always beat the other travel web site on airfare.

I forgot all about the West Palm connection. Those prices aren't bad. Looking at -$300 with taxes and fees. Still like Dr Ralph's idea better.
