We will be staying in Casuarina Pt early June. My son-in-law will be spending most of his days fishing. The house comes with a skiff. Any tips or suggestions for fishing in that area? Tackle he should bring along? Where to buy bait in MH? I'm packing a pair of walkie talkies so my daughter can at least talk to him through the day. :)

Stay out of our private spot, and you can fish the rest. Right R?

The water around there is REEAAL skinny! You'll have to keep watch on the tide so you can get back once you go out. There's a VERY shallow channel that can be used with a low tide, but you may or may not be able to use the motor. You may have to get over and pull it back close to the house, or pole it if there's one in the boat, and don't anchor so far off that you won't be able to get to it at high tide. There are some shoals on the south side of Duck Cay that will produce fish, if the weather's calm. There's good fishing around Riding Cay and Chicken Cay creeks. Bonefish, broadshad and baracuda around Point of Spit, and the canal at night (fish from the boat ramp) will produce whiting, snappers, etc., just use lots of bug spray. Just trolling will produce fish nearly anywhere. Just remember the Cherokee Sound between Casuarina and Cherokee is very shallow and you must use vigilance to avoid prop or boat damage and you should do fine. You can't help but have a blast, and you've got some great neighbors there! Any ??? you can PM or e-mail, be glad to help. In fact, we'll be down in June. We have a wedding on the 2nd at GTC and the rest of the month or so we'll be between Cherokee, Casuarina and Marsh Harbour with family, so we may just see you there!

Cathy,
Your son in law will love the fishing at Casuarina.
Like Chuck said; there is great fishing about everywhere in the area.

Which house are you renting? If it is B's house she has a Carolina Skiff that runs in just inches of water which is good, cause in Cherokee we got lots of water - it's just spread real thin.

If your Son in Law is interested I can show him a few spots that will work.
They are not "Our spots" but he will catch fish.

Let me know,

R.

We arrive May 31st and leave June 14th. We are staying at Abaco Palms. I think it's a fairly new pink house on the beach. My son-in-law, Joe, looooves fishing. So does his oldest boy (7yr. old Joey). I'm sure he will see you there. Just look for the guy who appears to be in the boat through all daylight. Late 20's. Blonde with a baseball cap. Hopefully, my daughter will be able to drag him along with us on a couple jaunts over to Little Harbour and down to Sandy Point. (she doesn't care to fish) Could you PM me with info how he can reach you when we're in the area? or I'm sure you'll see him out there. He's a friendly sort of guy and I'm sure would welcome any tips. Thanks you guys.

One more question. If we are standing on the beach looking out which direction is Duck Cay, Riding Cay and Chicken Cay creek? We've nearly always stayed on Elbow. This area is new for us to stay at. Looking forward to it. I think the shallow water will be good for the young grandkids.
Thanks

You'll be looking straight out (east and south) from the beach at Duck Cay. Riding Cay is to your left (north) about a mile. There's a channel that runs from Duck Cay to Riding Cay, so when you hit that deeper water, you'll know you're in the area. Chicken Cay creeks are just past there and join in with Yellowood creeks, and these are places where you can hit rock bottom real easy if you don't know where you are. Best have a high tide.

This should give you an idea of where things are.

I rotated the picture to give you a better perspective - see compass in lower left corner.

Upper right corner is Ocean. WARNING: BIG FISH live here!

We got tired of getting stuck in that skinny water during low tide and our new 135 footer couldn't make it ever. So, we finally got all the necessary permits to deep dredge from the ocean through the canal. Work starts June and should be done by July. This should be great news for everyone because a lot of fish ought to wash ashore after the blasting operation (no more silly stuff like casting or trolling necessary).

Once complete, the newly renamed Love Canal will charge a modest fee for passage -- US dollars or Euros only (valid passports will of course be required).

get a permit for some additional landfill between Cherokee and Riding Cay and have a runway built? That would be a great place for me to land my 727.

The Sheilk-El Dubai agrees but would request an elevated waterway with large pumps such as used at Schlitterbaun, a watersport amusement center his grandsons are very partial to. It should be deep enough for the big boats but wide enough for the Sheik's seaplane, but safe enough for the kids. We can call it is "Aqua-Duck" to keep in the local flavor, since his religion does not allow talk about love canals. He owns some land in Mexico and is thinking of naming his Abaco palace the "Casa Wareena." He is willing to work with the entrepreneurs, whatever Shieks Jaboudi. :D

Lurker, just think of it ... an air bus! That's a thousand times better than a flying toasters on Dickies Cay! [Note to DrRalph, way deep reference to Jefferson Airplane, right?]

I wonder if Greyhound or Trailways have thought about flying their buses, they are so slow.

I know Lurker has something BIG working here, just holding out on us ...

We are delighted to inform everyone that Phase I of our deep dredge operation from Casuarina Point to the Deep is on budget and on-time.

The image shows the new dockage location with the "X"s.

The photo was taken this afternoon revealing the exemplary workmanship and attention to detail.

Because we are on budget, we have decided that our originally posted fees for passage will not be increased. However, we must now insist on exact change. A voucher will be given which can be conveniently and readily redeemed at our office in Hole-In-The-Wall every third Tuesday of every fourth month, unless such date falls on a month where any member of our hard working staff or his/her family has a birthday.
