Hi, all. Seeing the Lance Armstrong thread reminded me of an absolutely hysteria-inducing news nugget from a few years back.
Anyone remember Moon Bahamas? It was supposed to be this GINORMOUS new development off Freeport, and it had people on many Bahamian forums and message boards (including the "other board") livid because of the massive negative potential social and environmental impacts to the entire Bahamas.
Based on the company's elaborate (and clearly expensive) website at the time, and all the press releases they were sending out, it seemed to be a done deal. Here's a release from November 04: http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=15420. They had lots of big name companies involved and the Bahamian government was totally on board.
At the time, I remember posting a message on the AMB saying "Folks, this is the Bahamas. Believe it when you see it, and not until then."
So today I thought I'd check on the status of Moon Bahamas. Well, surprise, surprise... their website doesn't even exist anymore. A Google search seems to confirm that the project team has abandoned the project. Hmmm... who could'a seen that coming? ;-)
Say it with me, folks: In the Bahamas, don't believe it till you see it.
