Now that the election has been called for May 2nd i thought it would be interresting to see what the political leanings are of the board members.I personally favor the FNM.

Well, unless you can have some fun like invite the candidates over to Nippers for a crab-walk race and E-Mask-Ulator 500 endurance test. Extra credit if they can out-smart Mikey while crab-walking and being "under the mask."
In nothing a PINK TUTU. :D
...and No, I'm not a Bahamaian, so I would be diqualified but could probably win! ;)

I'm registered UBP, but I lean toward FNM.

over the last 50, years i haven't noticed many politicians that represent their constituents... and that includes both the Bahamas and the USA.

I hear that the FNM is mentioning the environment alot. I am not a Bahamian either, and I'm new to this board, but that was a really nice thing to read about. It is so beautiful there. I am glad that there may be more attention paid in that area. It deserves to be protected. Each time I see the water and the colors on the reef it takes my breath away. Whichever candidate wins I hope they feel the same way. It is very special. This is a very nice forum too by the way!

Good idea, Mr. P.

I am not big on polititions of any persuasion, but Robert Sweeting – the MP for South Abaco is a man who has repeatedly impressed me with his affection and genuine concern for his constituents.
After Hurricane Floyd in 1999 – one of the first people to make it to Cassuarina was Robert.
Robert drove alone down to check every house in Casuarina to see if all were ok and ask what was needed, this was repeated in every settlement in South Abaco.
Again in 2004 after Hurricane Francis – the second vehicle to make it thru the floods into Casuarina was Robert, again alone going house to house to check on folks, and again this was repeated in every settlement in South Abaco.
Robert is not running this year, and is being replaced as FNM candidate for South Abaco by Edison Key a recently “converted” long time PLP.

Is it safe to say that the Hon. Robert Sweeting should maybe recognized for his support and concern and help for the Abaco settlements? That's more the kind of political statement I like to make, to be honest, brother.

FMN 1992-2002
1. Changed the law to make it MUCH easier to close a land/home transaction by a US citizen, which prompted "sustainable growth"
2. Raised cruising permits slightly
3. To my knowledge allowed no new "megadevelopments"
PLP 2002-2007
1. Raised cruising permits twice, last time 150.00 to 300.00
2. Raised dock taxes 700%
3. Sold offshore drilling rights to an oil company
4. Allowed mega-developments on Bimini, Exuma, Great Abaco, Guana Cay, Grand Bahama and one other one on one of the southern islands.
5. Expanded the Marsh Harbour Airport about 4 times(er..a.. Promised)
Now keep in mind that mine is not a Bahamian citizen's perspective but from a frequent visitor......which SHOULD be good for the economy.
FMN hands down.......ken
FNM , not that what I think matters since it is a Bahamian election. But since you asked...

My response was actually referring to the USA since I am a citizen. Since I am not a citizen of the Bahamas, my opinion doesn't really count for anything. BUT, I do have an opinion about it!

Christie is going down.
I went with my husband and some of his family last night to the rally in Cooperstown. It was very exciting and lots of people.

Perhaps it's time for Bahamian elected officials to think of their children's futures a little more.
