I typically cast net bait when I fish in Florida but I don't recall seeing schools of bait fish in the shallow waters of the Abacos when I have been there in the past. Would I be wasting my time bringing a cast net when we come over in a few weeks? If not a waste of time, what general areas should I try for bait? Thanks.

In order to use anything other than rod and reel - you need to get approval.

We have also found that locals generally don't like it when foreigners use nets. They won't say anything, but we'd advise against it.

I'm too lazy to throw a net even here in FLorida, but Sabiki rigs work well for me. wWen I locate the bait pods, I can ususaly pull up 4 or 5 at a time.

There might some schooling bait but the Abacos isn't the same as the Florida back bays, where you can cast a net on giant schools of mullet, sardines, ballyhoo/needlefish, minnows, pinfish, and shrimp. You might wear yourself out only to catch one grunt!

That said, I love a bait rig called the Sabiki. These are very small baits on extremely sharp hooks (watch them around kids, fuel tank lines, etc.). In fact, some folks love to fish the Sabiki so much all they do all day long is catch bait! Very fun,
