Thumbs up Doctors for Scoliosis Patients?

Good morning everyone. Thanks for the welcome I received to the Abaco Forum site today. My name is Canishka Alexander, and I am a full-time news reporter at The Abaconian. I am also a freelance writer/videographer.

About a month and half ago, I interviewed four female students on the island who have scoliosis. Basically, it is a curvature in the spine that causes them to look lopsided or hunched over when they walk. For some it causes discomfort, and for others they face the ridicule and mistreatment of people who are cruel.

I am wondering if anyone on the site is a doctor, or knows of a doctor who performs surgery for patients with this condition. One of the young ladies reached out to me this week for help in getting her in contact with a doctor who can perform this life-changing operation. I am a strong believer in God that He can do all things. Please if anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be truly grateful.

Welcome to our FuN (and informative) FoRuM! My daughter is a scrub for an ortho surgical center and practice, and a family friend that is a surgical physician's assistant within the same group. Let me do some asking around.

Check out The Center for Bone and Joint Surgery of Palm Beach; this is a large orthopedic practice in South Florida, they treat many spinal disorders including scoliosis. It's a big web site, take some time to work through it. Good luck!

Dr. Fred Piehl in Columbia, SC

Great guy, amazing surgeon, and he has helped a lot of folks. He does this surgery often w/ excellent results.

I know how difficult this condition can be and how it can affect young people. I hope you can find some solutions.

GT.
