Way belated trip report part uno
Way belated trip report part uno
Sorry so late-I'm a two finger typer & 1 finger was broke. "TGOF Get Blown Out" May 27th- a Sunday After much prep & anticipation The Grumpy Old Fishermen left on a leisurly flight a day early so we can get fishing by midday on Monday. Our flight was a little late coming in-no problem mon-except we didn't have a place to stay in MH. ( Check rant later for details) Mr. Cooper at Island Breezes baled 4 of TGOF out by giving us his last room. Thanks go to taxi driver Solomon and a nice lady who's name I can't remember. Now we are really fun and friendly people, but imagine 4 big chunky guys in 1 room. Chunky turned to grumpy pretty quick, but we were glad to get that 1 room. Very nice & roomy & I recommend Island Breezes anytime. We stumbled over to Mangoes after 9 where they reopened the kitchen for us for some great Mahi and a few salads. Monday- Rainbow rentals our next stop. They had just gotten back from a parts trip and were kind enough to install 4 new rod holders for us on our 22' Twin Vee. Unfortunately while they were out of town, one of there beloved pets died-I felt really bad for them. They forged ahead and got us ready to go. 2 things happen at this point- Raccooneyes Aggie (RA) drinks his first Kalik Gold and we drive away from Rainbow. We don't get far,but we make it back and Francois goes to work fixing the prop. Cap'n Bob assists. (Photo 1 and 2, since I can't figure how to put between text.) Also, For the first of one million times that week, we noticed something-the treetops were all touching the ground. Oops. Sam,(samcaldwell.com) world famous artist, general raconteur, and 2nd Grump in command said "I don't ever remember the wind blowing like this here". We headed over to The Jib in Hopetown. I remember screaming over the honking wind "I'm home, I'm never leaving". RA drank another Kalik. Jim drove. I joined RA & the Kalik. The Jib was great. We have never stayed where there was so much foot traffic. More about that later. Our View from the Jib-photo 3. Unloaded and took off toward MOW South Passage. Oops again. Waves through cut 14'-18' from trough to crest. I call that 7-9 foot seas in Texas. We elected to stay inside & troll a few feathers & Jim caught a nice barracuda on a light rod. Great fun, Photo 4. It was still choppy inside the reef & Racooneyes Aggie fell off the boat for the first of many times that week. It was often enough we had a $ pot going. We did eat some Yellowtail snapper that night. Victory. |

Nah--we cut the line. I did marry her daughter, though. She turned out ok.

Thanks Grumpy...
...for the report. Sounds like you had fun despite the wind. Nice fish in the last few photos. Snake Cay?
Just checked Sam's website. Wow, he is good. Has he done any paintings of Abaco? Tina |

I think there should be little squeezable dolls made of Racoon Eyes.... What a face!
Your stories are so funny! For some reason it reminded me of the movie "Weekend at Bernies", except RA was able to enjoy whole trip! |

Yes, Tina, That's Snake Cay. We've been well back behind the island & it's a great place to explore.
Sam did a few small watercolors while there over the last few years which he gave to my wife & daughters, etc. Why he has never done a larger one for commercial purposes I don't know. I see him every 3-4 days & I'll ask him. Bob |

Trip Report
I enjoyed reading, you are too funny. You sound like bunch I would like to share a few Kalik's with. I don't think the weather dampened your trip too much. As long as you can drown bait and drink beer it's all good (at least thats what my husband says )Thanks for posting. Joanne |
