Reef House: Bahama Palm Shores
Hello all,
We arrived yesterday for a week at Reef House and a week at Hopetown Hidewaway Villas. Here are some photos from last night and our 1st day at Reef house. We are having great weather and a wonderful time. Very nice here! I'll post a trip report at some point. Larry

Great! I don't know what those boards are for...maybe a cart but certainly would make walking on the sand a lot easier!!!

Beautiful! I'm curious as to how you got a boat down to Bahama Palm Shores. Is there a dock at Reef House?

Wish I was there! I guess I will have to suffer through the next 8 months with just this picture...

Today we just enjoyed the weather and took a short trip to Crossing Rocks. Lots of seaglass. Beautiful bahamian sun, sand and water. These small communities really make Abaco. We are having a wonderful and relaxing time. Even though we really love boating to the various cays further North, the convenience of a car on the mainland is cool too.

Hi Tina,
We rowed the dinghy out to the reef and took the photo of the house on the way back in. We will not have a boat until next week. There is no dock. We are hoping to row out to the reef again in a day or two when the weather cooperates. Cheers Larry |

Willy,
You will have plenty of places off Bahama Palm Shores to spear. |

Hi Willy, CR,
We are going to row out to the reef today as the weather looks great. Any tips CR?? I have a pole spear, paralyzer tip. I have practiced a lot (in my back yard) but never tried to spear anything in the Bahamas. The reef is relatively easy to get to from the shore, probably 250-300yds out. Seeing surprising numbers of bonefish! I'll let you know how things turn out Larry |

Hey Larry,
One thing that will make things easier is swim on top until you see something then drop straight down on your target. If you swim along the bottom you spook fish out of spear range. Get your fish out of the water quickly, and don't stay in one spot too long if you are sticking fish. Regards, R. |

We also have property at the north end of BPS-there are no docks; however, residents have placed moorings for small (>21') open boats which can be launched at Cherokee. Best bet is small on a trailer-put in & take out when needed. This also allows you to take boat to other southern locations & to the west side.

Glad you are enjoying the Reef House. The owners are very good friends of ours. Bahama Palm Shores has one of the most beautiful beaches in all of the Abacos. Thanks for the great pictures.

The Reef House is on the main island of Abaco, about 20 miles south of Marsh Harbour. There is a mooring in front of the house, and we furnish the 10' dinghy,
and 8' raft, and a 2 person kayak with the house. We do have an 18' boat that we launch at Casaurina, but for obvious reasons, it is not for rent. There are many grouper, triggers, and snappers on the reef. Our web site is http://vrbo.com153673. Bill Rawls, owner |

more photos from our week at Reefhouse
Hi Everyone,
Here are a few photos from the middle of our week at Reefhouse. We traveled north in the car a couple of days. We went as far as Little Abaco and Crown Haven. Also stopped at Cherokee for a morning. Every time I visit Cherokee sound I am impressed by what a drop-dead beautiful place it is. We also really enjoyed Cooperstown and all of the small towns along the way to Crown Haven. Abaco seems a lot bigger after this trip! Larry |

Larry, I'm running out of adjectives. Your shots have a fine jewel-like quality to them. Selfishly, I hope you have lots of trips coming up!
We agree with you regarding Cherokee. If you aren't already in the 'calm' zone in Abaco, when you get to Cherokee, it is such a calm, beautiful place, you just naturally slow down and take in all the beauty at a very slow pace. Thank you! Last edited by Patti Puzo; 04-25-2009 at 10:27 AM. |

final post from week at the Reefhouse
Hello all,
Thanks for the kind comments and emails These are the final photos from the first week of our recent two week trip to Abaco. Most of these photos are from our car trip Crown Haven. A couple of sunrise photos from the beach behind the Reefhouse. I can't say enough good things about our week there, and what a great help the owner was with our questions. Also I want to thank CR for the spear fishing advice.... swim/float and look, then approach fish....although no luck this time as I created too much underwater commotion as I moved toward them. Maybe next time! Cheers Larry |

Great photos, Larry, and nice to see some areas of Abaco that very few venture out to. We're leaving Saturday for two weeks in Abaco, and your photos always inspire me to see if I can make mine a little better each year. I'll post trip reports and photos when we return, but meanwhile, it's good to see your work here again.
