Hasn't the Snake Cay connection been there before? I fished around there once when it was rough and remember that I saw a bunch of old rusting activity. Is there some sort of shore access which makes it a good place to strip boats? Your comment is spot on. Between the Power Problems and the Boat Stealing, it doesn't project a very good image.

i know a lot of people want to compare the abacos to South florida when it comes to marine thefts, but this is a real problem for everyone in the abacos, tourists, second homeowners, and locals alike. The impact has been very real and has been hurting the area for some time now. If you disagree, go talk to any marina owner/operator and see what they think about it.
I encourage everyone to stay vigilant in forcing this to be an issue to be addressed and not ingored. You can try to justify all you want to make it seem like it is not serious, but you would be doing an extreme disservice to the area. Thefts have been happening now with regular frequency now for over two years. Everyone interested in stopping it should do what they can and keep the pressure up on this issue. I am happy to see the success the loacl authorites have had in the more recent months, but the underlying propbelm still exists. Support the local law enforecement, businesses and the people of the abacos by keeping this a serious issue. |

You have that dead on. We have always planned on bringing our boats, one a live aboard, to Hopetown for the winter. We love (ed?) the place. Just like this Island. Bought a new Regulator with......... Yamaha Four Strokes just for it. Last time we were in Hopetown, 2 years ago now, we had jewelry stolen from the house. Never had anything remotely happen like that in over 20 years. Now there is the power thing. You hear about the kind of people in the bars in Marsh. Next winter is out for us again. Somewhere else is getting our money. We'll see but I don't like what I'm seeing. I recently said in a different Thread that I can Rant with the best. This is mine! Hope it lives......
